Photos of Layla on Opening Day

My friend Jason opened up his newest restaurant on Sunday and invited me in to grab some photos. I was not able to get good food shots, hopefully those will come someday soon.

The space is really nice, but a little dark for photography. This made me go with some longer shutter speeds to see if I could come up with something cool.

See more photos in my Layla's Opening Photo Gallery and read an initial review of Layla's in St. Louis Mag's Relish column.

Mia has got some character

For the second week in a row, Vance has been kind enough to want to use one of my photos as the artwork to go along with the podcast we do

In this episode we discuss frustrating email messages, so I was tasked with coming up with a photo that involved a computer. I had inspiration from the classic Strobist at his computer photo, so all I needed was a willing model.

Fortunately Mia was willing and pulled out some amazing expressions.

Photos for a podcast

A few weeks ago I started a podcast with my friend Vance of Articulate Ventures. It focuses on communication, Vance's area of expertise. I ask questions and learn a lot, but typically that is about all.

Except for this last episode when we spoke about time and what to do when you don't hear back from someone. For this last episode Vance asked if I could get a photo of my girls pointing to a watch and looking perturbed.

Excited to have a photo "assignment"  I came up with a plan and set up the lights. Fortunately Olivia and Mia are pretty expressive and Vance says he loves the photos. Hopefully they make people want to listen to a podcast. If they do for you, follow this link.

Below are the rest of the images from the photo shoot.

Embarrassing but Present

With the summer winding up, we decided to go to finally use the free Six Flags ticket my youngest daughter (Mia) received for doing enough reading during the school year. If you  haven’t heard of Six Flags, it is a typical amusement park with rides, food, games, and crowds of people.

Mia's level 3 dismount

After just one week of gymnastics camp at the Y, Mia is capable of a level 3 dismount. I have no idea what the different levels are, but I sure do enjoy watching her perform.

This ties in so nicely with a post I read that discusses the six words a parent should say to their child .
